Images of our church, our people
Service projects we did in March & April 2009:
...knotting a comforter for a refugee family somewhere
...serving a meal at the local Salvation Army's "shepherd's table"
...helping can 38,000 lbs of turkey meat!
Each year the Mennonite mobile meat canner travels to 33 locations in 11 states as well as in Canada. In early April it comes to Dundee, north of Corning, where volunteers prepare and can 38,000 lbs of turkey meat in 4 days. The meat is then given around the world in the wake of war and other emergencies and in areas of chronic, long-term food shortages. (Mennonite Central Committee seeks to share the food in ways that work at long-term food needs -- eg. in food-for-work programs where the work encourages local food production and increases the ability of the landless to buy their own food.)
